DRUM MOTOR DESIGN BENEFITS
All the moving parts are enclosed within the drum/shell which eliminates the need for continual adjustment and
yearly maintenance. The motor and gears run in a completely sealed oil bath that ensures that all moving parts
are properly lubricated and cooled.
The drum motor being completely sealed with no external moving components is able to withstand harsh
operating environments as well as high pressure washdown.
Efficient and reliable, the motors run at 96% mechanical efficiency, saving up to 30% on power consumption
when compared to external drives (refer to page 18: Energy & Cost Savings Analysis of Using Drum Motors vs.
Conventional Belt Drives).
Standard drum motors are available in a wide range of sizes, belt speeds, face widths (refer to page 16) and
standard ratings to address most applications. Non-standard face widths are also available.
DRUM MOTOR DESIGN ADVANTAGES
Increased Operator Safety:
No external moving parts that present safety hazards
No gearbox, chains, motor, chain guard and pillow block bearings
Enhanced Space Utilization:
Fit more belt conveyor into less floor or overhead space
Allows higher density and multiple applications
Cleaner appearance
No Maintenance:
50,000 hours of operation between oil changes
Oil can be changed without dismounting the drum motor from its frame
Reduced downtime
Electrical & Mechanical Efficiency:
Save up to 30% on power consumption
Lower operating cost than conventional approach
96% mechanical efficient
Quick & Easy Installation
Less time to install than exposed conveyor drives
