WHAT IS A DRUM MOTOR?

The drum motor is a completely self-contained motorized drive unit. Combining state-of-the-art manufacturing, precision craftsmanship and advanced engineering, Van der Graaf drum motors are designed to provide years of dependable service in all types of material handling operations.

The motor, gear drive and all moving parts are enclosed within the drum/shell of the drum motor. The motor and gears operate in a sealed oil bath ensuring proper lubrication and cooling. With no external motor, gear reducer, sprockets, chain or OSHA required chain guard, no external component maintenance is required. The low profile of the drum motor results in a cleaner appearance and allows to fit more belt conveyor into less floor or overhead space.

Drum Motors are available in mild steel or stainless steel construction, in wide range of sizes, speeds and horsepowers to suit broad range of applications.

   

All external component maintenance is eliminated by having the electric motor and gears enclosed within the outer drum/shell. The drum motor rotates a gear module which transmits power to the outer rotating shell.

INSTALLATION

 Drum motor installation is quick and easy requiring less time to install than exposed conveyor drives. The motor's compact, low-profile design permits easy installation by eliminating the need for chain or belt guards.
